Ali Bin Abi Taalib: Enlightening Knowledge
Posted on Wednesday, February 16 @ 17:55:52 EST
Topic: Intelligence of the Sahaba
Intelligence of the SahabaAn old man seated himself beside Amir Al Mumineen, Umar Ibn Al Khattab, and Ali bin Abi Taalib and began to say grace and pray to Allah. Umar asked him ?How have you become?? The man replied ?I have become in love with fitnah* and I hate the truth. I pray without making ablution (wuduu) and I possess here on Earth what Allah does not in the heavens.? ..

Umar?s face tightened and he burst out in rage for his religion, the religion of Allah. He grabbed hold of the man so that he can beat him for saying such things. Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said while laughing ?O Amir Al Mumineen! He is in love with fitnah meaning he loves money, worldly possessions and a large family as mentioned in the Quran "?your possessions
And your progeny (big family with many sons)
Are but a trial (fitnah )?
"
Al Anfāl, 28 And he hates truth, meaning he hates death as also mentioned in the Quran "And the stupor of death
Comes in truth.
?This was
The thing which you
Were trying to escape!?
"
Qāf, 19 And he prays without making ablution meaning he prays for (praises) the Prophet, pbuh, which requires no ablution. And as for what he possesses on Earth that Allah does not in the heavens meaning he has a wife and children and Allah does not. "He is Allah, the One, the Eternal, He begetteth not, nor is He begotten and there is none like unto Him." (Sura Al Ikhlas). Umar Ibn Al Khattab's face brightened up with a smile forming on his mouth. He was relieved. He said joyfully ?Pity for the times where Abu Al Hasan (refers to Ali) is not around to enlighten us with his knowledge.? Source: Translated from "100 Stories from the Life of Ali bin Abi Taalib" by Muhammad Sedeeq Al Minshawi, Dar Al Fadeela Publishing, 2002.

*fitnah: things in life, such as property and possessions, which add to a man's dignity, power and influence and can turn out to be a source of downfall if mishandled.
